Dr. Okia Clement Akais is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environment Sciences.
He has over 20 years working experience in training, research, project development and management.
Before joining Muni University, Clement worked as a Senior Scientist and Uganda Country Representative for the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF), a Lecturer in Makerere University, Agroforestry Development Facilitator with ICRAF and a Lecturer as well as Head of Environmental Forestry at Nyabyeya Forestry College.

He holds a PhD in Agroforestry from Bangor University, UK; and both MSc and BSc in Forestry from Makerere University, Uganda. Clement has provided leadership to various projects in Eastern and Southern Africa and has also provided consultancy services to various national and international agencies. He is currently serving as a member of several national and international professional bodies, including African Biochar Partnership, Global Evergreening Alliance, and Uganda Forest Standards Development Group among others. His current research and development work focus on food and nutritional security, ecosystem health, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and landscape restoration.
