The second cohort of training on E-course ware development in Moodle was carried out from Monday 4th February to Friday 8th February 2019 at Muni University Guest House.

The training objective was to distinguish Blended Learning as an appropriate approach to university education, appraise current implementation of Blended Learning, Design and develop courseware content and enhance Lecturers’ competencies for implementing the Blended Learning at Muni University.

Blended Learning is a style of education through which students learn online as well as face to face.

The 5-day training mainly focused on;

  • Modes of Learning; face to face vs distance, online learning and Blended Learning.
  • Copy right and fair use in Blended Learning
  • Online applications in Moodle
  • Instructional design for Blended Learning
  • Assessing Learning
  • Courseware development

The training which was 90% practical was facilitated by Dr.Bona Maandera of Virtual University of Uganda also an expert in Moodle Application. The Lecturers were able to develop course ware for selected units, showcase and justify assessing learning in Moodle.

During the course of the training Dr.Grace Sekakubo an IT Consultant and Coordinator for  ADB-HEST who was at the University at the time of the training made a courtesy call  and talked to the participants. He said HEST is benefitting all the Public Universities in the entire country. The HEST project has an important component that is, the ICT component meant to enhance the integration of ICT in to Teaching and Learning and there’s a lot of background work to enable what’s happening now.
He thanked the University Technical Team and encouraged them to continuously improve and consider having a Master data place. He said he was happy the training was taking place promising they will always step in in case of gaps.

The 5day training was officially closed on Friday 8th Feb by the Dean Faculty of Technology, Doctor Geoffrey Andogah who thanked the facilitator Dr.Maandera and Virtual University of Uganda  for their partnership and wealth of knowledge passed out to the Lecturers.
He appreciated the funder ADB V HEST project for financing the ICT component and overall support to Muni University through MoES and Government of Uganda.
“We are moving towards Blended Learning.80% of Teaching Staff now know what Moodle environment looks like and know how to use it. Our courseware will be of better quality, it’s the University philosophy that we should be learning on Blended Learning.” He concluded and closed the workshop.
