Improving the reliability, efficiency, and security of Muni University's ICT infrastructure

As part of its efforts to support regional institutions, the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) sent a team composed of four Computer Network/Systems Engineers who are specialists in Education and Research networks to visit Muni University with a purpose of collaborating with the University's ICT team to optimise the Research and Education Network infrastructure and provide shared ICT services that benefit the institution. The team that arrived on Monday 17th, February 2025 and was recieved by the Vice Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Anguma Simon, donated three latest Network Access Points (Wifi6) to boost the campus WiFi signal that supports teaching and learning. The equipment was received with utmost gratitude.

This comes after the IUCEA and UbuntuNet Alliance conducted a research to determine the demand for improved ICT services in regional Universities, selecting 18 Universities and three NRENs for a pilot phase. In order to carry out the pilot phase, IUCEA purchased ICT equipment and picked RENU to assist with configuration and support universities and NRENs in meeting the confirmed demands.

The Engineers led by Eng. Namuddu Carol examined the reliability, efficiency, and security of the university's ICT infrastructure; Deployed shared ICT services to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs; Shared expertise and built capacity within ICT team through knowledge transfer and the University ICT team leveraged the engineers' extensive experience in educational networks to implement best practices tailored to the university's needs.

The team concluded its mission on Friday 21st, February 2025 and headed to Ndejje University.
