Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, which tackles food insecurity, climate change and land degradation in West Nile.

Dr. Alfred Alumai (PhD) leads the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, established in 2020. Its BSc Agriculture and BSc Environment and Natural Resources programmes are hands-on: students operate tractors, graft trees and collect field data, and take part in ten-week recess training and internships.

Research

Dr. Alumai’s own projects include research on the tolerance and resistance of African bats to viral antigens — the immunological trade-offs in zoonotic reservoir hosts — and the International Molecular Biology Laboratory Training programme. With colleagues he is scaling up the multiplication of vitamin A-rich banana lines in West Nile and developing community-based breeding programmes for commercial goat production.
