 Prof.JG Agea

Muni University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Jacob Godfrey Agea as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs, bringing with him over two decades of distinguished service at Makerere University’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES).

The appointment has been made by Bishop Henry Luke Orombi, Chancellor of Muni University, in accordance with the powers vested in him by Section 32(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, Cap 262, and upon the recommendation of the University Council.

“I, Bishop Henry Luke Orombi, do hereby appoint Professor Jacob Godfrey Agea as Deputy Vice Chancellor–Academic Affairs of Muni University for a period of five (5) years, renewable once, with effect from 29th May 2025,” reads the official instrument of appointment.

His appointment follows the promotion of Associate Professor Simon Katrini Anguma, former Deputy Vice Chancellor–Academic Affairs, to Vice Chancellor in September 2023. This transition came after the passing of Professor Christine Dranzoa, the founding Vice Chancellor of Muni University, on June 28, 2022, at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Prof. Agea holds a First-Class Bachelor of Science in Forestry and a Master of Science in Forestry, both from Makerere University. He also earned a PhD in Agriculture, specializing in Applied Ethnobotany and Food Security, from Bangor University (formerly University of Wales), United Kingdom.

With more than 23 years of experience in academia and university administration, Prof. Agea brings deep expertise in university governance, curriculum development, quality assurance, e-learning, and teaching methodologies. His knowledge of the Ugandan higher education landscape and extensive involvement in Senate matters make him well-suited to lead academic affairs at Muni University.

A respected scholar, researcher, and leader, Prof. Agea has received several awards at both national and international levels. He currently represents the Government of Uganda at the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), based at the United Nations Campus in Bonn, Germany, a role he has held since October 2023.

Muni University warmly welcomes Professor Jacob Godfrey Agea and looks forward to his leadership in advancing academic excellence and innovation at the institution.
