The new borehole system, commissioned at the 37th sitting of the University Council, gives the campus a reliable water supply and will save the University more than UGX 200 million a year.
Safe water coverage in West Nile stands at about 47.5 percent, well below the national average. Against this background, Muni University has completed the Muni University Water Plant Project — drilling, installation, motorisation, testing and commissioning of a modern borehole system — launched during the 37th sitting of the University Council on 24 March 2026.
This water project is a game changer, especially during the dry season. Our students will now have reliable access to water, allowing them to concentrate fully on their studies and laboratory activities without interruption.
Council Chairperson Eng. Joel Aita said the plant frees resources for teaching and learning. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) Rev. Fr. Prof. Odubuker Picho noted that the University had been spending over UGX 200 million a year on water. University Estate Manager Eng. Willy Ochen added that students took part in the works to gain practical training, and Council member Dr. Jacinto Amandua welcomed a consistent supply for laboratory work.
